Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Admission into undergraduate programs is based on academic qualifications and subject-specific requirements. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

General Requirements

Applicants must hold an MSCE, IGCSE, or an equivalent internationally recognized qualification with at least six credits, including English and Mathematics. The required subjects vary by program:

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (GENERIC AND UPGRADING):

Entry requirements

A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with:

At least six credits which should include English, Physical Science, Biology and Mathematics and any other two subjects.

An aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects obtained in not more than 2 sittings.

Candidates should be aged between 16-45 years at the time of application.

Duration: Generic (4 Years), Upgrading (3 Years).

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY:

The academic requirement for the ICT programme is as follows:

Entry at first year

A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with six credits that includes English, Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science and any other three subjects.

An aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects obtained in not more than 2 sittings.

Entry at second year

Occasionally, candidates may also be allowed to enter at second year provided they are:

Holders of a Diploma in Computing or any related field from a recognised institution of higher learning with a pass of distinction or credit and an MSCE with at least four credits including Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science and English or.

Holders of a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualification with a MSCE certificate with 6 credits including Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science and English.

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE PROGRAMMES (BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, ACCOUNTANCY,AND HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT)

Entry requirements

A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent with:

At least six credits which should include English and Mathematics and any other four subjects

An aggregate of not more than 30 points in the best six subjects obtained in not more than 2 sittings.

Specifically,Candidates should hold a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), “O” Level or IGCSE.

For admission purposes, ‘O’ level grades are interpreted as follows: A* = 1, A = 2, B = 3, C = 5, D = 7, and EFG = 8.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Admission into postgraduate programs is based on academic qualifications and subject-specific requirements. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN DATA SCIENCE

Entry requirements

At least a first degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information and Communication Technology or its equivalent.

At least two years’ experience in the industry.

A letter of undertaking to pay the required fees from the applicants with evidence of a reliable source of income.
